EXTRACTS FROM NEWSPAPERS,

"The Honolulu Star Bulletin" of the 30th

November 1915 states that another step in the carrying out

of the Government's Pearl Harbour Defence Schemes was taken

on the 30th November, when a condemnation suit involving

20.05 acres of land situated at the North end of the Waipio

peninsula, laipio, and Waikele, was filed in the federal

court by the United States Government, it being the purpose

of the Government to secure the land for the erection of a

military post and fort and army station for the public

defence.

The petition, among other things, states that the

land is wanted for the military protection of the harbour

and the city and county of Honolulu.

Canton 31st December 1915, It is ascertained that two

forts are being built in the Civil Governor's Court, Canton,

one being situated to the Best and one to the eat of the

city.

The "Manchuria Daily News" of the 20th December

1915 reports that Shanliaikwan, which is situated on the

boundary of Chihli Province and Manchuria at the eastern

end of The Great Fall, is to be more strongly guarded as the

key to communication between Peking and Mukden. General

Tuan at Kukden, after consulting Governor Chu of Chihli, has

decided to reinforce the Chinese guard there with the 39th

Brigade of the 20th Division, supplemented with two

companies of the 78th Regiment and three Machine Rifle

Corps, Lieutenant General Fan, in command of the Division,

will assume command of the reinforced garrison.
